The defending champions of the Women’s Super League (WSL), Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Ladies, are poised to strengthen their position at the summit of the table in their pursuit of securing their sixth league title.
The LDF Ladies claimed their inaugural title during the 2017/18 season and have maintained an unbroken streak of championship victories in the following seasons: 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21, and 2022/23. With their eyes set on furthering their local dominance, they aim to secure their sixth consecutive title in a league comprising 10 formidable teams.
The Army Queens are additionally pursuing an unassailable record that would solidify their status as the Invincibles of the local league, having remained undefeated with only four matches remaining before the conclusion of the season.
They currently hold a commanding lead with 42 points earned from 14 matches, achieved through a flawless record of victories without conceding a single goal. Their nearest challengers, the long-standing rivals Kick4Life Ladies, currently occupy the second position, trailing the defending champions by five points. Kick4Life Ladies have accumulated 37 points from 15 matches, securing 12 wins, one draw, and two defeats.
As stated by LDF Ladies’ coach, Lengana Nkhethoa, the team is diligently striving to establish themselves as the unequivocal champions of the league.
Nkhethoa noted that in the previous season, their mandate was to remain undefeated and to score a minimum of 100 goals as they pursued supremacy
Nkhethoa informed the Weekly Observer Sport that even when some of their players were called up for FIFA games, the team did not cease their efforts, maintaining rigorous training regimes. He expressed confidence in their readiness upon their return, noting that they continue to hone their skills during international fixtures.
“We are looking to set our record straight and score more goals also we should not lose any game in our four remaining matches. Yes, our players might have went for FIFA games but that did not stop us from continuing our work because where they are, they still get practice. Kick4Life is second in the league but we will work hard to win against them once again.”
This coming weekend, LDF Ladies will journey to Mafeteng to face Bantu Ladies, with Nkhethoa emphasizing their singular focus on securing a victory.
